S'mores Cupcake
Anthony Bourdain once famously said that vegans were the “Hezbollah-like splinter faction” of vegetarians. And…I have to admit, that made me chuckle a lot. While I have respect for people who can keep up such a diet, it is just way too extreme for me! What kind of foodie life will it be without real butter, dairy, and all the fatty accoutrements of good eats??
However…
ZOMG there it is, the vegan s’mores cupcake. And it is delicious, WTF. So moist! So creamy! And totally dairy free! HOW DO THEY DO IT?? I really don’t know, but I have to say I’ve found one of my favorite cupcake makers in the city, and it is Sticky Fingers Bakery in Columbia Heights. Mmmm….
Need to try their other flavors too. ♥
I think you’d like this place! I’m thinking one of these days, I’ll pop in on the way home from work to check out their selection.
We should definitely do a cupcake break soon. Actually, the strawberry cupcake at Lawson’s isn’t bad. =D
I’ve tried a couple cupcakes at Lawson’s since raving about them to you once… Loved the red velvet, but I haven’t really liked anything there since. I tried the Boston creme and the lemon cupcake, and they had so much icing! Too overpowering, and sat like rocks in my belly.
On the other hand, I tried Cakelove in downtown SS today … Yum! Tried the chocolate with strawberry icing — yummy fresh strawberry bits in it. I may need to pop in tomorrow night after work, since Mondays are 1/2 off cupcake days.
Mm, cupcake break… I’m going to turn into a cupcake at this rate. :D
I thought the strawberry one was pretty good at Lawson’s. But it’s nothing really extraordinary, I think.
And you know, that really surprises me what you say about Cakelove! I’ve never really heard anything good about the place…just that it’s expensive. But perhaps I should try it out sometime, since you mention those tasty strawberry bits!
Yeah, Cakelove is /mightily/ expensive. They had half-price cupcakes on Monday, though … if I spot another half-price sale, I’ll give you a heads-up (I thought it was every Monday, but the flyer actually just said 7/13). I bought a bunch of cupcakes and had a sampling at work… the chocolate raspberry is the best of them so far.
They’re not as heavy on the icing as other places, but that’s all right… and the cake part of the cupcakes is downright tasty. It’s not just a placeholder for frosting.
I just saw they’re $3.25/cupcake! Definitely on the more expensive side. And thanks, hopefully they’ll hold another sale soon. =)
I’ve definitely had the “placeholder for frosting” type of cupcake before, and usually the frosting isn’t even that good! Just teeth achingly sweet.
You keep giving me cupcake cravings! I may have to try this place too… Maybe one day we should take a cupcake break at work~
